“We want to save lives”

Placing all other projects on hold, we committed all our resources into creating the Eliciae MV20.

Ventilators for use in a field hospital-like environment

In March 2020, as the Covid-19 outbreak spread worldwide, Metran was contacted from across the globe for assistance in supplying ventilators. We began to discern that in a highly chaotic medical setting, conventional high-acuity ventilators were limited in its effectiveness due to shortages in supply and specialists who can operate them.

Discussing as a team, we concluded that what we can contribute to assist in the Covid-19 pandemic was to stop all current projects and to focus on creating a safe and effective ventilator that is easily operated by non-respiratory professionals.

Responding to ventilator needs worldwide for 36 years.

As the sole ventilator manufacturer based in Japan, Metran serves as the Japanese representative in International Organization for Standardization (ISO)’s technical committee. In developing the Eliciae MV20, we used our expertise and technology to carefully examine the needs and requirements of the medical frontlines of the pandemic. After highly successful clinical trials, the product has received approval from the Vietnamese Ministry for use and export from the country.

Tran Ngoc Phuc
METRAN Founder

Metran founder and CEO Kazufuku Nitta arrived in Japan as a student from Vietnam and after graduating from college, was hired by a Japanese medical device producer. To achieve his goal of producing a piston-style HFO (high-frequency oscillation) mechanical ventilator, he founded Metran Co., Ltd. in 1984.

After numerous trial and error, the completed product was entered into a competition for HFO ventilators targeting premature infants hosted by the NIH (The United States National Institute of Health), where it won first prize and the world’s first commercialized HFO ventilator was born. Since then, we have contributed as a ventilator manufacturer to Japan’s neonatal care, which is rated as one of the best around the world. We now devote our high craftsmanship honed from our past experiences developing mission critical products to creating products in new, unexplored categories.
